The Nene Katey Ocansey I Learning and Technology (NEKO TECH) Center is a non-profit NGO located in Ada, Ghana in West Africa. It was founded in July 2000 by Nene Katey Ocansey I (a.k.a. Isaac Hayes), who is Chief for Development of the Ada traditional area, and Naa Asie Ocansey, a Princess from the village of Ada.
Since its opening in July 2000, the Neko Tech Center has quickly gained national and global recognition through strategic collaborations and partnerships with world renowned institutions, leaders and celebrities such as the Massachusettes Institute of Technology, (M.I.T) and Yale University, the Student National Medical Association all of the USA, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), The UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), the Ghana AIDS Commission and the Ghana Health Services.
The impact of their work on the community has been most pronounced in the Health, Education and Technology sectors. Over 10, 000 persons in the Dangme East district and several hundreds of thousands nationally have benefited from Neko Tech's projects and documentaries.
To facilitate the quality of life of underserved populations through education in Technology, Healthcare, Entertainment, Spiritual and Economic Development.
To become a sustainable social enterprise that reeducates rural citizens to enable them to effectively participate in the new networked global economy by undertaking scalable rural pilot projects that will help sensitize the international community on the new paradigms of rural development while giving the poor a leapfrogging opportunity out of poverty and poor health.
Due to the growing number of orphans, an orphan support network has been established with 752 orphans, most of the orphans supported are NOT HIV/ positive a special orphanage project has been initiated and a pilot program on three families with AIDS. The orphans remain in their own extended families and support is provided by Neko Tech for their education and in some cases food and clothing. |
